EXPO HELPS WOMEN CONNECT, LEARN
By Karen Davis (Sentinel Staff Writer)
SANTA CRUZ — For women, by women. The Achieve
Balance Santa Cruz Women’s Expo 2003 promises each dame a time to network,
learn and have fun — just for herself.
The event, presented by the Sentinel, will be 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the
Cocoanut Grove at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
"Women are busier than ever and our lives are
more demanding," said Arlene Hudson, Sentinel advertising manager. "We saw the
Expo as an opportunity to bring women together ... to communicate and connect
... and enjoy what it means to be a woman in today’s world."
Ladies can relax and enjoy the event’s "Only in
Santa Cruz" fashion show or get moving during fitness and self-defense
demonstrations.
More than 55 exhibitors that market goods and
services that help women "achieve balance" in their lives will be at the
event, organizers say.
Attendees can buy tickets for a chance to win
prizes donated by area businesses. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the
Breast Cancer Fund of the American Cancer Society.
The grand prize is an "Ultimate Spa Weekend" for
two at the Claremont Resort & Spa in the Oakland Hills, provided by Santa Cruz
Travel and the Sentinel.
Keynote speakers are Peggy Downes Baskin and
Karin Strasser Kauffman, the local authors of "Beyond Superwoman: 25 Top CEOs
Show Us How to get a Life."
Their book links the stories of 25 top Silicon
Valley women executives and their views on the way women are planning their
lives. It also offers thoughtful discourse on what it takes to succeed in a
world where there are few role models.
Admission is $5, which will benefit the Walnut
Avenue Women’s Center in Santa Cruz. Parking is free.
