Co-founder of an innovative program designed to help re-entry women through crisis as they move from welfare to work, Peggy is also co-author of The New Older Woman.  A political scientist, specializing in The Presidency and Women and Power, she holds a B.A. from Vassar and a Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate School. Downes Baskin taught politics for 18 years at Santa Clara University in Silicon Valley and is currently teaching Women's Studies at UC Santa Cruz.

Karin Strasser Kauffman taught Political Science and Women Studies for over 20 years at UCLA, Creighton University, Whittier College and Monterey Peninsula College, prior to being elected to two terms as Monterey County Supervisor.  She has championed coastal protection, affordable housing and disaster response, and has been nationally honored for her leadership to permanently preserve the California Big Sur coast.  She lives in Carmel Valley with her husband and their two sons.
